On August 14, 2024, the event “The Future of the Automotive Industry in Thuringia – A Debate” took place in Eisenach. The panel discussion was organized in cooperation with Automotive Thüringen. After two keynote speeches by Klaus Dörre (FSU Jena) and Holger Ehrhardt (CEO NIDEC GPM GmbH), the approximately 60 participants attended the panel discussion with state politicians (Georg Maier, SPD; Martin Henkel, CDU; Christian Schaft, Die Linke), which also included the chairman of the Opel Eisenach works council and the president of the South Thuringia Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Many questions, including those concerning the end of combustion engines, the environmental bonus, and the shortage of skilled workers, were discussed intensively and sometimes controversially.
